International Crane Foundation brings the world to Baraboo
The International Crane Foundation brings the entire world to Baraboo. It’s the only place on Earth where you can see all 15 species of cranes in one spot.
Founded north of town in 1973, ICF opened a new $10 million visitor center in 2021. There, bird lovers benefit from the efforts of ICF’s staff, which works around the globe to preserve and protect habitat for the 11 crane species that are threatened.
ICF is open to visitors from May to October. Enjoy a guided tour, walk the nature trails and browse the gift shop. The grounds are accessible to the disabled.

Scout troops, student groups and senior tours come to ICF en masse, marveling at this showcase for the organization’s international mission. Did you know cranes are among the most endangered families of birds on Earth? We’ve lost more than 3 billion over the past 50 years. ICF conservationists traverse the globe to safeguard wetlands, grasslands and farmland. These landscapes provide the habitats cranes need to thrive.
You’ll find all 15 crane species alive and well at ICF, nestled among farms between Baraboo and the bustling Wisconsin Dells. Where else can you travel around the world in a single day?
